Final Score: Calgary 1, Nashville 0
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season to help the Calgary Flames to a 1-0 win over the slumping Nashville Predators.
Derek Smith's first career goal accounted for all the offense in the game as the Flames have won their past two.
"We made sure we were focused like we needed to be, when you play Nashville you need to stay with your game and be patient," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter.
Pekka Rinne stopped 28 shots for the Predators, who have dropped five of six and have been held to two goals or less in their past five games.
"This year's a new group and it's a new identity, but I think we're headed in the right direction," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "Sometimes I forget that we're the youngest team in the league."
The only goal of the game came with 1:10 to play in the first as a slap-pass from the top of the right circle by T.J. Brodie went to the low left side where Smith redirected it in.
During a sequence in the second period, Roman Horak rang a shot off the Nashville net and Kiprusoff preserved the lead moments later with a beautiful sliding save on a David Legwand wrister about five minutes in.
Kiprusoff made 17 saves over the final two periods to notch his 41st shutout of his career.
