NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Detroit
(Saturday, November 26th)
Final Score: Detroit 4, Nashville 1
Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Valtteri Filppula scored twice and assisted on Henrik Zetterberg's goal, as the streaking Red Wings blew past the Predators, 4-1.
Danny Cleary also lit the lamp for Detroit, while Jimmy Howard made 18 saves in the club's fifth straight win, which includes Friday's shootout victory that ended the Bruins' 10-game winning streak.
"We always want to win as many as we can," said Filppula. "I want to help the team as much as I can every night and today felt good out there."
Pekka Rinne lost his fourth straight game between the pipes for Nashville, allowing all four goals on 37 shots.
"They dominated us the whole game," said Nashville defenseman Ryan Suter. "Maybe they felt bad for us late, sat back and let us get that goal."
Jack Hillen tipped-in a Colin Wilson shot to end Howard's shutout bid 5:34 into the third, but by that point the Wings had built a 4-0 lead.
Detroit scored on the power play late in the first period to break the scoreless tie. Rinne made an initial stop on Todd Bertuzzi in front, but Filppula was there to backhand in the rebound at 13:23.
Zetterberg wheeled around from behind the net and wristed a shot up high for a 2-0 lead 1:31 into the second, and Filppula re-directed a Jiri Hudler shot into the back of the net seven minutes later.
Detroit extended the margin 4:03 into the third when Darren Helm caused a Predators turnover in their defensive zone and fed Cleary at the right circle for a one-timer.
Detroit has won six straight at Joe Louis Arena...Nashville won last year's season series, 4-1-1...Hudler had two assists.
