NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Dallas

(Monday, November 21st)

Final Score: Dallas 4, Edmonton 1

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Kari Lehtonen made 17 saves to help Dallas snap a five-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Toby Petersen, Radek Dvorak, Steve Ott and Michael Ryder all had goals for the Stars, who hadn't won since a victory in Washington on November 8.

"It's nice to get that monkey off our back," said Ryder. "Tonight was a team effort and we got off to a great start. Kari was great for us back there. Now we have to keep this going."

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the lone goal for the Oilers, who have dropped six of their last eight. Nikolai Khabibulin was charged with three goals on 34 shots.

Edmonton was coming off a 9-2 win over Chicago on Saturday. It was the first time the Oilers had scored nine goals in a game since a 10-1 win over Calgary on November 26, 1996.

"I don't think we handled this game very well," said Oilers head coach Tom Renney. "We just weren't ready for them and didn't measure up at all tonight."

The Stars got the only goal of the first period at the 8:30 mark when Petersen snapped a shot in from the low right circle for his first goal of the season.

At 8:58 of the second, Dallas took a 2-0 lead as Mike Ribeiro's pass from behind the net while facing the crowd found Ott in front for the tap-in goal.

The Oilers, though, got one back with 4:36 to play in the second as Nugent- Hopkins second swipe at the puck in the slot got past Lehtonen for his eighth goal of the season.

Less than a minute later, Dallas got it back on a 3-on-1 break when Nicklas Grossman sent a pass from the left wing to the slot and Ryder blasted it home.

Dvorak's empty-netter in the third sealed the win with 1:24 to play.
