NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Vancouver
(Sunday, November 20th)
Final Score: Vancouver 2, Ottawa 1 (OT)
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Chris Higgins scored 2:18 into overtime and the Vancouver Canucks edged the Ottawa Senators, 2-1, at Rogers Arena.
In the extra session, Higgins parked himself in front of Ottawa goalie Alex Auld and tipped a point shot by Dan Hamhuis.
Henrik Sedin potted a power-play goal for the Canucks, who have won four of their last six games. Cory Schneider earned the win with a 28-save effort.
"We want to get back to playing tight-checking games like this," Schneider said. "With our structure and our talent, we'll be able to win most of them."
Auld stopped 25 shots for Ottawa, which was aiming for a fourth consecutive win but fell to 3-1-1 on a six-game road trip that ends in Pittsburgh on Friday.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Sedin put Vancouver on the board at the 2:31 mark of the second period with a snap shot from the high slot that eluded Auld.
Colin Greening tied the game at the 3:32 mark of the third period, redirecting a nice feed from Jason Spezza.
Alain Vigneault picked up his 246th win as the Canucks head coach, tying Marc Crawford for the franchise record...Ottawa has dropped its last five visits to Vancouver.
