NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Colorado
(Friday, November 18th)
Final Score: Colorado 3, Dallas 0
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Colorado Avalanche took a 3-0 victory over the Dallas Stars.
It was Giguere's 35th shutout of his career but his first since February 6, 2010.
Chuck Kobasew, Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene netted the goals for Colorado, which dropped seven of eight games entering the contest.
"We talked about protecting our house tonight," Giguere said. "We won the game at the blue line and we really benefited by not giving up too many shots."
Kari Lehtonen made 42 saves in the Stars' fourth straight loss.
Earlier on Friday, the Stars announced Tom Gaglardi, the president of Northland Properties Corporation -- the largest family-owned hospitality company in Canada -- had purchased the team and will be introduced on Monday.
Colorado's first goal came at the 6:10 mark of the opening period when Ryan Wilson's wrister from the left point was tipped by Kobasew in front of the net and deflected off the leg of a Dallas defender before going into the net.
After a scoreless second period in which Giguere made 11 saves, the Avalanche extended their lead on the power play when Stastny cleaned up a rebound in front of the net on his knees with 5 1/2 minutes left in regulation.
Duchene laid the puck in the vacated net in the closing seconds to seal the win.
"We need to start throwing pucks at the net and getting some dirty goals," Stars forward Brenden Morrow said. "This is our first adversity this year. We will recover."
