NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at St. Louis

(Thursday, January 12th)

Final Score: Vancouver 3, St. Louis 2 (OT)

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Daniel Sedin scored 46 seconds into overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center.

Alexandre Burrows tallied the other two goals for Vancouver, which got 31 saves from Roberto Luongo in the Canucks' fourth win in five games.

"It's not easy to get the job done on the road sometimes, but we seem to find ways to win," said Luongo.

Jason Arnott scored twice for the Blues, who had a four-game win streak snapped.

Brian Elliott, who was selected as an All-Star netminder earlier on Thursday, stopped 18-of-21 shots in the loss.

Vancouver started the extra period on the power play after a boarding penalty by David Backes with 20 seconds left in regulation and controlled all of the action in OT.

The Blues' T.J. Oshie lost his stick and raced to the bench to grab another, leaving the Canucks with a 4-on-2 advantage in the offensive zone. Henrik Sedin slid a pass cross-ice to his brother and Daniel ripped a one-timer from the right circle through the legs of Elliot for the 700th point of his career.

"It came down to a penalty at the end and we lose our stick," Elliot said. "It seemed like a perfect storm, but I have to make that save to give us a chance."

The teams traded goals in the first and second periods to send the game into the third tied at two.

Vancouver struck first at the 2:48 mark of the first period when the puck squirted out of scrum behind the net to the left of Elliott and Burrows raced to the loose puck before lifting it under the crossbar.

But just over a minute later, Ian Cole took a slap shot from the left point that hit a pile of bodies in front. Jamie Langenbrunner then slid a pass to Arnott and he wristed it into the twine.

St. Louis notched its second goal 6:27 into the second period after Arnott received a pass at the blue line, took a shot that was blocked by Luongo, gathered his own rebound and shot again. The puck got stuck somewhere in Luongo's equipment and as the goaltender spun around looking for the disc, it fell out and bounced across the line.

The Canucks, though, scored the equalizer with 2:08 left in the middle stanza with an Alexander Edler wrister from the blue line that was deflected past Elliott by Burrows.

Luongo made seven saves in the third period, while Elliot stopped the two shots he faced to force overtime.
