NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Detroit

(Saturday, November 12th)

Final Score: Detroit 5, Dallas 2

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Johan Franzen's goal early in the third period proved to be the game winner as the Detroit Red Wings took a 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Franzen also had an assist and Valtteri Filppula added two helpers for Detroit, which won its fourth straight game.

Niklas Kronwall, Ian White, Darren Helm and Brad Stuart also lit the lamp for the Red Wings, while Jimmy Howard made 25 saves.

Loui Eriksson and Brenden Morrow recorded the goals for the Stars, who dropped their second straight game after a four-game win streak.

Andrew Raycroft stopped 35-of-40 shots in a losing effort.

"They're a good team. They had a couple of chances and they scored on them. That's what they do," said Raycroft.

Dallas took the early lead thanks to a Nicklas Lidstrom interference call when Trevor Daley's wrister from the top of the right circle bounced off a body in front of the net and right to Eriksson to the left of the goal. Eriksson shot the puck into the open net before Howard could get across the goal mouth.

But Kronwall sent the game into the first intermission with a 1-1 tie when he ripped a one-timer from the top of the left circle that screamed past Raycroft on the short side at the 17:17 mark.

The Red Wings took the lead just over three minutes into the second when White's slap shot from the right point found its way into the back of the net though a crowd.

But the game again entered the break with a tie when Morrow's shot from a tough angle to the left of the net squeezed in between the goaltender and the left post with 7:49 to go in the second.

Franzen started Detroit's three-goal third just 3:47 into the frame when he gathered the puck out of a crowd in front of the net and slipped it past a prone Raycroft from the right side.

Helm gave the Red Wings some cushion with 10:41 left in the game when he backhanded a cross-ice pass from Jiri Hudler past Raycroft, and Stuart put the game out of reach a little over a minute later with a slap shot from the right point.

"I'm not really expected to score so it's nice when you're able to do it," Stuart said. "We won the game and guys are playing well. That's the most important thing."
