NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Dallas

(Saturday, January 7th)

Final Score: Dallas 4, Edmonton 1

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro scored two goals apiece as the Dallas Stars took a 4-1 decision over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

Loui Eriksson added three assists for the Stars, who won consecutive games for the first time since a three-game win streak from December 10-15.

"I'm putting in the work and going about my business in the right way and so is the team," said Benn. "We want to put together a winning streak now."

Richard Bachman stopped 25-of-26 shots for the win.

Taylor Hall netted the lone goals for the Oilers, while Nikolai Khabibulin allowed three goals on 33 shots in Edmonton's third straight loss.

Benn broke a 1-1 tie at the 7:03 mark of the third period by grabbing a rebound to the right of the net and lifting the puck under the crossbar as Khabibulin was still down after making a save.

A little over five minutes later, Ribeiro received a pass near the blue line after trailing a rush and beat two defenders before swooping around the back of the net and backhanding the puck out front, where it bounced off two different Oilers before finding its way into the back of the net.

Ribeiro's empty-netter with 1:14 left in regulation accounted for the final margin as Bachman stopped all eight shots he faced in the third period.

"We came up a little short," Oilers head coach Tom Renney said. "They're trying and they worked hard. It just wasn't enough."

Edmonton notched the lone goal of the first period at the 17:19 mark thanks to a fortuitous bounce.

Hall took a shot from the left circle on a rush that was blocked by Bachman, but the rebound deflected high into the air off the skate of Dallas' Alex Goligoski as he was marking his man in the slot. The puck then floated over Bachman's head and just out of the reach of the goaltender's outstretched glove before bouncing across the goal line.

Dallas tied the game at one with 5:21 left in the middle stanza when Trevor Daley finished an offensive flurry by sliding a pass from behind the net past a defender and into the slot, where Benn one-timed it home.
