NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Calgary

(Friday, October 28th)

Final Score: Calgary 3, St. Louis 1

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 28 shots as the Calgary Flames took a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Roman Horak had a goal and an assist while Tom Kostopoulos and Olli Jokinen each had a goal for the Flames, who have won their past two games.

"It wasn't one of our games where everything was as sharp as you want it to be, but the hockey gods get even too," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter. "We found a way to win and that's what's most important. Our goal today was to get back to .500 and that's what we did."

Alex Steen scored the lone goal for the Blues, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Brian Elliott stopped 15-of-17 shots in the loss.

"I thought our guys stuck to the game plan, we earned our chances, there weren't going to be any easy freebies out there," said St. Louis head coach Davis Payne.

It wasn't all bad news for the city of St. Louis on Friday, though, as the Cardinals won Game 7 of the World Series to give that team its 11th baseball championship.

After a scoreless first period, the Flames took a 1-0 lead 14:45 into the second when Horak flicked a backhand pass as he was going behind the net to Tim Jackman, who from the left side centered the puck with Kostopoulos one- timing it in.

Calgary had to kill off a pair of power plays in the third, with Kiprusoff coming up with several big stops, and took a two-goal lead with 7:44 left.

Curtis Glencross grabbed the puck in the right corner and centered it for Horak, who one-timed it through the five-hole for his second goal of the season.

Steen made it a one-goal game just 12 seconds later when his blast from the right point hit off the stick of a Flame and went in.

That was as close as it got, though, as Kiprusoff made the stops and Jokinen sealed it with an empty-netter with 1:16 to play.
