NHL Game Summary - Washington at Edmonton

(Thursday, October 27th)

Final Score: Edmonton 2, Washington 1

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Jordan Eberle's go-ahead power-play goal 12:44 into the second period lifted the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 win over Washington, handing the Capitals their first loss of the season.

"I didn't think it was our best," Eberle said. "We turned over a lot of pucks, kind of made it a track meet and I think that's what they wanted. They're such a fast transition team."

Taylor Hall netted the other goal for the Oilers, who won their third straight game.

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 33-of-34 shots for Edmonton.

Karl Alzner scored the lone goal for Washington, which had won its first seven games of the season.

"We ran into a good team here that's on a high," Alzner said.

Tomas Vokoun made 17 saves for the Capitals.

Alzner scored 5:36 into the opening period to give the Capitals a quick 1-0 lead.

Hall's power-play tally knotted things up late in the first period on some nice tic-tac-toe passing by the Oilers. Corey Potter fed Eberle from the high point. Eberle, from the low-left circle, then found Hall in the crease, and he jammed it home.

Potter also set up the go-ahead goal with a shot from the point. The puck took a huge rebound and Eberle finished from the left circle for a 2-1 edge.
