NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Chicago
(Tuesday, October 25th)
Final Score: Chicago 3, Anaheim 2 (SO)
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Patrick Kane netted the shootout winner as Chicago got past Anaheim, 3-2, at United Center.
Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp lit the lamp while Kane added two assists for the Blackhawks, who have won three out of four and posted their first shootout win in three tries this season.
Corey Crawford made 29 saves in 65 minutes of action, then turned aside two of three chances in the shootout for the victory.
Ryan Getzlaf and Teemu Selanne scored in regulation for the Ducks, losers of three straight after a four-game win streak.
Jonas Hiller played well in defeat, making 33 stops, but it wasn't enough to deliver a win for head coach Randy Carlyle in his 500th game at the helm of the southern California franchise.
"We had way too many turnovers," Selanne said. "It was good enough for one point, but not good enough for us."
Jonathan Toews ended the opening round with a score, but Selanne made the most of his chance to begin the second round and Hiller stoned Dave Bolland. Crawford turned away Getzlaf before Kane slid a backhander through the Anaheim netminder's pads to end the contest.
Following a scoreless opening period, Anaheim tallied at the 58-second mark of the middle period on Getzlaf's third of the year.
Hossa knotted the score at 10:16, as Kane performed a spin-o-rama in the right circle and dished a perfect cross-ice pass to the veteran Slovak for an easy tap-in.
But Selanne gave the Ducks a one-goal edge once more, at 16:22 when he beat Crawford to the far post.
Sharp ripped a one-timer past Hiller at 5:57 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2, then Chicago survived a pair of Anaheim power plays in the last half of the stanza to get to overtime.
"It was another one of those back-and-forths," Crawford said. "I was focused in the third period. I was ready."
The game almost ended in the final second of OT, but Kane's rocket from a left-circle faceoff win on a brief power play clanged off the right post.
Chicago has won eight of the last 14 meetings...Sharp and Kane share the lead atop the Blackhawks scoring race with eight points...Selanne's goal pulled him into a tie with Dave Andreychuk for 14th place all-time with 640 career goals...It was also his 28th career tally against Chicago...Carlyle holds a 270-172-58 record since taking over in Anaheim for the 2005-06 season.
