NHL Game Summary - Boston at Florida
(Monday, January 16th)
Final Score: Boston 3, Florida 2 (SO)
Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - David Krejci scored the winner in the fourth round of the shootout as Boston clipped Florida, 3-2.
Florida's Mikael Samuelsson lost control and failed to register a shot to start the final round, then Krejci ended the game by beating Scott Clemmensen on the forehand.
Patrice Bergeron tallied twice and regulation while Tuukka Rask posted 38 saves for the Bruins, winners in eight of their last 11 games.
"It was a lot better. We still made mistakes we could avoid," Bergeron said, referencing Saturday's late-game collapse in Carolina. "We found a way to win tonight and that makes for a good effort. We have to carry that over for tomorrow night. It was a total team win and that's what we needed."
Jason Garrison and Shawn Matthias tallied for the Panthers, who have dropped four of five. Clemmensen was strong in defeat, stopping 33-of-35 shots.
Florida reclaimed first place in the Southeast Division with the extra point, one ahead of idle Washington.
"It was definitely one of those games that you knew would have a little bit of testosterone to it," said Florida head coach Kevin Dineen. "There was some jump out there, but unfortunately we weren't able to get that final goal."
Bergeron beat Clemmensen just 80 seconds after the opening faceoff, floating a high shot home from between the circles.
Garrison evened the score at 8:28 of the middle period on a blast from the left point, but Bergeron struck again at 14:40 during a 5-on-3 by tipping home a Tyler Seguin offering.
Matthias forged a 2-2 deadlock 1:14 later. He exited the penalty box, took a Tomas Kopecky lead pass up the middle and beat Rask through the five-hole.
Rask stopped 11 shots and Clemmensen turned aside 12 in the final period.
Rask made two strong saves as the Bruins fended off a Bergeron hooking minor in overtime, then kept his club alive by stopping two more close chances and then closing his pads on a Kris Versteeg breakaway with 16 seconds left in OT.
