NHL Game Summary - Boston at NY Islanders

(Saturday, November 19th)

Final Score: Boston 6, NY Islanders 0

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Kelly had two goals and one assist and the Boston Bruins beat the New York Islanders, 6-0, on Saturday night for their first eight-game winning streak in almost three years.

Patrice Bergeron, Nathan Horton, Andrew Ference and Zdeno Chara also scored for Boston while Tim Thomas had 23 saves for his second shutout of the season, even if the Bruins didn't need it.

"The human tendency is to let up and we did a good job of staying with it for most of the game," Thomas said of having a big lead. "There was only a couple of really good chances."

The Bruins scored three goals in both the first and third periods. They hadn't won eight straight games since capturing 10 in a row from December 12, 2008 through January 1, 2009.

Their streak includes two victories over the Islanders, who have lost five of their last six.

Rick DiPietro allowed three goals on 13 shots in the first period. Anders Nilsson backstopped a scoreless second period, then gave up three goals on 11 shots in the third.

The Islanders have an Eastern Conference-worst 13 points.

"There were some guys that cared on the bench tonight, but the emotion was down, fragile," said head coach Jack Capuano. "And you know what? You gotta battle through it."

The Bruins, coming off a 5-0-0 homestand, started their three-game road trip with three goals in the first 18:45 against the Islanders.

Tyler Seguin skated around two defenders on the left side, including one on his stomach, and flipped a backhand pass in front that Bergeron slammed in at the 7:08 mark.

Horton scored 5:16 after that, stealing a failed clearing attempt by DiPietro at the point and beating him with a shot, and Kelly made it 3-0 with a slap shot from the left circle.

Nilsson kept Boston off the scoreboard in the second, but Ference beat him with a slap shot from above the left circle midway through the third. Kelly's second goal came less than three minutes later on a quick move in front after a rush and Chara's first goal in 11 games made it 6-0 with 1:45 left.

Thomas faced just two shots in the first period, then had 11 saves in the second and 10 in the third for his 28th career shutout. His previous shutout this season also came during Boston's current winning streak, a 7-0 win over Toronto on November 5.
