NHL Game Summary - Boston at Montreal
(Saturday, October 29th)
Final Score: Montreal 4, Boston 2
Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Carey Price made 26 saves and the Montreal Canadiens won their third straight game Saturday night, beating the Boston Bruins 4-2 in the finale of a home-and-home.
Brian Gionta, Lars Eller and David Desharnais scored to give the Canadiens a 3-0 lead midway through the second period, and Tomas Plekanec calmed nerves with an empty-net goal in the final seconds.
Montreal has won three in a row since a six-game losing streak gave them their worst start in 70 years and led to the firing of assistant coach Perry Pearn.
"We just got back to playing the way we're suppose to play," Price said.
Milan Lucic and Tyler Seguin scored for the Bruins, who have lost three in a row, including Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Montreal in Boston.
"It's seems we don't have goal-scoring luck," said Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara. "But we can't be frustrated, we have to keep trying."
Seguin made things interesting, scoring with 54.4 seconds left as the Bruins skated with an extra attacker. But Plekanec escaped the Montreal zone with the puck and rifled his empty-netter in with 12 seconds left.
Tuukka Rask allowed three goals on 26 shots in the loss.
The game was quiet until Montreal scored twice in a 76-second span late in the first quarter.
With Johnny Boychuk off on a holding penalty, Gionta scored a power play goal at 15:26 and Eller added one at 16:42, holding the puck during a 2-on-2 and snapping a shot into the top right of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Canadiens went ahead 3-0 in the second period, again on a power play, when Desharnais slipped into the low slot and fired a loose rebound into the back of the net.
The Bruins finally got on the board a little more than four minutes later, at the 16:28 mark, when Lucic pulled them within 3-1 on a slap shot from the right circle.
The Canadiens were 4-2 against the Bruins last season, including a 3-0 record at Bell Centre...Boston was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Montreal went 2- for-6.
