NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Philadelphia

(Tuesday, February 22nd)

Final Score: Phoenix 3, Philadelphia 2 (OT)

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Shane Doan scored a power-play goal 2:41 into overtime to help Phoenix extend its winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 win over Philadelphia.

On the night he tied the franchise record for all-time games played, Doan scored the winner after Kimmo Timonen was called for hooking.

Phoenix took the man advantage into the Philadelphia end and the Flyers were further shorthanded when a defenseman lost his stick. Radim Vrbata fired a pass from the right circle to the left where Doan one-timed it home.

"Yeah, I mean we obviously took advantage of a couple bounces too," said Doan. "It was a big two points for us. Any time we come to this building, you know it's going to be a tough game and we found a way."

It was the 1,098th career NHL game for Doan as he tied former Coyotes captain Teppo Numminen for most in franchise history. If in the lineup, he will pass the mark on Wednesday when Phoenix plays in Tampa Bay.

Taylor Pyatt and Eric Belanger had third-period goals to help Phoenix run its win streak to eight for the first time since an eight-game run in March of last season. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 37 shots in the win.

Ville Leino and Claude Giroux each had a goal for the Flyers, who had won six of eight coming into the game. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 shots in defeat.

"They have a good team and are really fast," said Philadelphia forward Mike Richards. "I thought the pace of play was good tonight. We played well; we had a lot of chances. They were very opportunistic and they got the last shot."

Phoenix rallied with two goals in the third period to take the lead, but Philly tied the game with Bobrovsky pulled for the extra skater. Jeff Carter got the puck from the slot to the low left side where Giroux fired a rebound off his own shot into the net with 1:13 left in regulation.

The Flyers took the lead 6:24 into the game when a wrist shot from Matt Carle at the left point was redirected into the net by Leino.

Bobrovsky preserved the lead through the first two periods by stopping all 16 shots he faced.

However, Phoenix tied the game just 2:44 into the third period. Mikkel Boedker out-muscled his defender in the Philly end and took a spot behind the right side of the net. He waited for a moment before sending the puck to the front, where Belanger shot it home.

Just past the midway mark, Phoenix took the lead when Pyatt fired a rolling puck from the top of the left circle past Bobrovsky for a 2-1 advantage.
