NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Calgary

(Monday, January 24th)

Final Score: Calgary 3, Nashville 1

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff made 23 stops as the Calgary Flames took a 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Brendan Morrison, Jarome Ignila and Curtis Glencross each had a goal for the Flames, who have won three straight. Matt Stajan and Alex Tanguay posted two assists each.

"We have to play desperate from here on out," said Tanguay. "Tonight we played with intensity and kept the puck away from Miikka. Our power play was clicking and it was a big two points."

David Legwand had the lone goal for the Predators, who had a three-game winning streak stopped. Pekka Rinne was tagged for all three goals on 27 shots in the loss.

"We didn't manage the puck very well and passed up on some shots," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "When you turn over the puck and pass up on shots you're not going to score much."

The Flames took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first as Glencross snapped a shot that hit a diving defender and popped over the goaltender and into the net.

Nashville tied the game just past the midway mark of the second period when Colin Wilson threw a turnaround backhand on net that got past Kiprusoff and sat on the goal line before Legwand slammed it home.

The Flames, though, took a 2-1 lead into the final period with a power-play marker. Tanguay blasted a shot on net from the high slot that was stopped. The rebound went to the left where Stajan corraled it and threw it over to the right for the easy tap-in by Iginla with 6:59 left in the second.

Calgary used the power play to give itself some insurance with 5:42 to play. A tic-tac-toe play had Mark Giordano send a pass from the low left side to the slot where Tanguay immediately dished it to the right side for a one-timer by Morrison for the 3-1 advantage.
