NHL Game Summary - Carolina at Boston

(Friday, November 26th)

Final Score: Carolina 3, Boston 0

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Cam Ward stopped 37 shots for his first shutout of the season to help the Carolina Hurricanes take a 3-0 win over the Boston Bruins.

Tuomo Ruutu and Jeff Skinner each had a goal and an assist while Jussi Jokinen also lit the lamp for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game slide.

"That's a pretty sound team over there and we knew it was going to be a tough game," said Ward. "But the guys did a good job of preparing and we were able to walk away from here with a big two points."

The Carolina power play, which was ranked 21st in the league coming into the game, went 3-for-3 in the contest to lead the team to victory.

Tim Thomas was charged with all three goals on 21 shots for the Bruins, who have dropped three of their last four.

"We should be disappointed in ourselves right now," said Thomas. "We let them control the play tonight and taking those penalties killed us."

The Hurricanes scored the only goal they needed with 15.8 seconds left in the first on a 2-on-1 break. Ruutu sent a pass from the left to the right, where Skinner used a wrister to put the puck into the open net.

At the 11:09 mark of the second, Carolina lit the lamp for the second time on the man advantage as a shot by Ian White in the high slot was tipped in front by Ruutu.

Ward stopped 12 shots in the first and nine in the second to keep Boston off the board.

The third Carolina goal came at the 7:52 mark with Milan Lucic in the box. Skinner had the puck at the left circle and sent it to the slot for Eric Staal. As he was knocked to the ice, Staal sent a backhand pass over to the right circle where Jokinen wristed it home.
