Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Brian Elliott stopped 31 shots for his first shutout of the season as Ottawa took a 2-0 win over Boston to hand Tim Thomas his first loss of the season.
Erik Karlsson and Daniel Alfredsson each scored a goal for the Senators, who have taken five of their last six games.
Thomas, who came into the game 8-0-0 in his nine starts this season, gave up both goals on 33 shots for the Bruins, who have dropped four of their last five games.
Karlsson's fourth goal of the season near the midway mark of the first granted Ottawa a 1-0 lead.
Elliott stopped 10 shots in the first then made 11 saves in the second to keep Boston off the board. Thomas made nine saves in the second to keep Boston within one.
Alfredsson's seventh goal of the season at the 4:15 mark of the third gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead and Elliott stopped 10 shots in the final frame to complete the whitewash.
It was Elliott's seventh career shutout and first since a 2-0 victory over the Flyers on March 23, 2010...Both clubs are back in action on Monday as Ottawa plays in Philadelphia and Boston hosts New Jersey...The Bruins took a 4-0 win over Ottawa on October 30 with Thomas blanking the Senators...Ottawa defenseman Filip Kuba played his first game of the season as he was sidelined with a broken leg...Thomas fell to 17-8-2 against Ottawa in his career...Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
