Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Matt Ellis' third-period goal wound up being the game-winner, as Buffalo ended its preseason slate with a 7-6 win against Toronto in an offensive showcase at Air Canada Centre.
Ellis' goal was one of six in the third period along, with Thomas Vanek's second of the game on the power play breaking a five-all tie.
Tim Kennedy, Jochen Hecht, Nathan Gerbe and Clarke MacArthur each had a goal and an assist in the win. Derek Roy added three assists.
Patrick Lalime's subpar effort was bailed out by the offense as he let in all six scores on 27 shots.
Vesa Toskala was victimized for all seven goals on 24 shots for the Maple Leafs, who blew a pair of leads over the first two periods.
Lee Stempniak led the offense with two goals, while Matt Stajan, Francois Beauchemin and John Mitchell each had two-point nights with a set of helpers.
The Sabres open their season on Saturday at home against the Canadiens, while Toronto will also host the Habs on Thursday to begin its regular season.
