NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Detroit
(Monday, November 30th)
Final Score: Detroit 4, Dallas 1
Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Jimmy Howard made 29 saves, and Todd Bertuzzi notched a goal and an assist in Detroit's 4-1 win over Dallas at Joe Louis Arena.
Darren Helm, Drew Miller and Dan Cleary also scored for the Red Wings, who won their second straight game since suffering back-to-back shutout losses to Calgary and Atlanta.
Brenden Morrow had the lone goal for Dallas, which has lost three of its last four games. Marty Turco gave up all four scores on 32 shots in the loss.
"Seemingly the mentality in here has kind of been a struggle. It just shows up in our consistency. It's been happening all year long and it's something we need to address and take care of or we'll be on the outside looking in," remarked a frustrated Turco.
Detroit opened the scoring with 6:12 left in the first period, when a Stars defender overskated the puck in the left corner to allow Miller to gain control and beat Turco up high from a wide angle.
Stephane Robidas' slap shot was tipped home by Morrow with 15 seconds remaining in the opening frame to tie the game at one.
Helm slammed a cross-ice pass from Kris Draper into the net for a 2-1 Detroit lead 5:35 into the second, and the Red Wings went up by two after Cleary's goal with 7:54 left in the frame. Henrik Zetterberg threw the puck in the front of the net, and Cleary poked it past Turco.
Bertuzzi closed out the scoring 3:35 into the final frame, and Howard recorded 15 saves in a busy third period to keep the Stars from getting any closer.
"I thought Howard was good all-game long. I thought he did a real good job. It's great to see he's getting confidence and he cane maybe put together a good run for us," said Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.
Detroit snapped a three-game losing streak to the Stars...Dallas has lost five of its last seven on the road, while Detroit halted a four-game skid at home with the win...Draper had two assists.
