St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Alexander Steen netted two goals and one assist as St. Louis doubled up Chicago, 4-2, at Scottrade Center.
Erik Johnson and Eric Brewer also tallied for the Blues, who won their third straight game and are still entertaining thoughts of a playoff berth as they moved within six points of eighth-place idle Colorado with six games left.
Chris Mason stopped 32-of-34 shots for the win.
Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa scored for the Blackhawks, who have lost three in a row and four of five but maintained their five-point lead over Nashville in the Central Division after the Preds lost to the Kings.
Antti Niemi let in four goals on 30 shots in defeat.
"I thought the approach was good tonight. It's a sign there's some positive things could come," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said.
Brewer picked up the only goal of the second period, at the 5:39 mark to knot the game at 2-2, then Steen gave the Blues a one-goal edge at 3:27 of the third when he swept in a David Backes pass.
St. Louis' go-ahead goal came moments after Hossa was stoned by Mason on a breakaway.
Johnson increased the St. Louis advantage to two just after the midway point of the period, streaking ahead of a Blackhawk defender to accept a Steen dish and beating Niemi through the pads.
"I saw their defenseman was cheating away a little so I snuck away to the slot and got really nice feed from [Steen]...It was a big time in the game so it definitely felt good to score," Johnson said.
Sharp opened the scoring for Chicago at 7:51, then Steen equalized for St. Louis at 13:05. Hossa put the 'Hawks back on top at 16:25 and the visitors led by one at intermission.
Steen picked up his fourth multi-goal game of the season and first since march 6 at Colorado...The son of former Winnipeg Jets great Thomas Steen continues to add to his career-best with 23 goals this year...Jonathan Toews notched two assists for Chicago.
