NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Vancouver
(Saturday, January 23rd)
Final Score: Vancouver 5, Chicago 1
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Henrik Sedin scored twice and Roberto Luongo made 43 saves, as Vancouver took it to Chicago in a 5-1 victory at General Motors Place.
Daniel Sedin posted a goal and two assists, while Alex Burrows continued to pile up the points with three assists to extend his scoring streak to 11 games.
Steve Bernier and Mikael Samuelsson also lit the lamp for the Canucks, who claimed a fourth straight win and are 11-2-2 over their last 15 games.
Vancouver has taken the first two contests of a four-game homestand and won for the seventh time in nine tries on home ice.
Jonathan Toews had the lone goal for the Blackhawks, who fell to 3-2-0 in the middle stages of a season-long eight-game road trip. Chicago has still won four of six overall.
Antti Niemi, who recorded a 30-save shutout in Vancouver on November 22 in a 1-0 win, was pulled from Saturday's game after allowing three scores on 12 shots in the first period, and took the loss. Cristobal Huet made 14 saves the rest of the way.
Vancouver built a 3-0 lead in the first period on Samuelsson's score 7:19 in, Henrik Sedin's poke over the goal-line three minutes later and a Bernier tally inside the final two minutes.
"We've found way to come back on teams many times before, but you can't put yourself in that situation and expect to win," said Toews of being down 3-0 after 20 minutes.
A scoreless second period gave way to the Blackhawks' lone score, Toews' 17th of the season with 3 1/2 minutes gone by in the third. But 32 seconds later, Henrik Sedin took a feed from his brother Daniel in front to restore the three-goal advantage.
"We're patient out there and looking for chances. Things are going good," Henrik Sedin said of the chemistry between he and his linemates Daniel Sedin and Burrows, who combined for nine points in the win.
Daniel Sedin added a goal in the final two minutes to put the finishing touches on a strong victory.
