NHL Game Summary - Carolina at Dallas
(Monday, November 23rd)
Final Score: Dallas 2, Carolina 0
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Marty Turco stopped 22 shots for his second shutout of the season as the Dallas Stars topped the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-0, at American Airlines Center.
Brad Richards had a goal and an assist while Jamie Benn scored the other goal for the Stars, who have won three of their last four.
"Right now, the thing for us is to keep putting points on the ledger and tonight we got a couple of huge ones," said Dallas coach Marc Crawford. "We've won two in a row now, and we get the chance to try and string together three on Wednesday."
Manny Legace turned aside 27 shots for the Hurricanes, who had won three of four coming into the game.
The Stars drew first blood on the power play at the 9:30 mark of the first period. Richards threw a shot on net from the left circle that was stopped, but Benn was there to bang in the rebound for his fourth goal of the season.
Turco stopped all eight shots he saw in the opening stanza to keep Carolina off the board.
In the second, Carolina appeared to tie the game as Ray Whitney got the puck into the net, but a review of the play determined that he kicked it in with his right skate and the goal was waived off.
"I think we got the wrong side of that one," said Whitney about the play. "I took a swipe at it with my stick. It didn't look like it was conclusive on the video."
Dallas used the power play in the third period to get an insurance goal as Richard's soft wrister from the high slot deflected off the stick of a Carolina player and went in at the 2:07 mark.
Dallas hosts St. Louis on Wednesday...Carolina plays in Anaheim on Wednesday...Dallas has taken five of the last six games against Carolina...Dallas went 2-for-8 on the power while Carolina finished the game 0-for-4...This marked the 38th career shutout for Turco.
