NHL Game Summary - Florida at Buffalo

(Wednesday, November 18th)

Final Score: Florida 6, Buffalo 2

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Michael Frolik netted a pair of scores as Florida used a four-goal third period to down Buffalo, 6-2, at HSBC Arena.

Rostislav Olesz and Dominic Moore each posted a goal and one assist for the Panthers, who have won three of four. Stephen Weiss and Cory Stillman also tallied while Tomas Vokoun stopped 26 shots for the win.

"This was a good road win. It started with a strong first period," said Panthers head coach Pete DeBoer. "We played a real smart first 20 minutes. Even though they got the first goal we kept our composure. More and more we're looking like the team we're supposed to look like."

Drew Stafford and Clarke MacArthur tallied for the Sabres, whose three-game win streak came to an end. Ryan Miller was tagged for a season-high five goals on 23 shots in the loss.

Steve Reinprecht and Stillman teamed up on a 2-on-1 break with the latter scoring for a 3-1 Florida advantage with 9:10 left in regulation, but the Sabres kept plugging away as MacArthur tapped in a rebound at the right post for a power-play goal with 5:43 to play.

Florida, though, responded with three goals over the final two-plus minutes to put the exclamation point on the victory.

Frolik tipped in Bryan McCabe's point drive for a power-play score and 4-2 edge with 2:02 to go, then Miller went to the bench for an extra skater only to see Olesz hit the empty net 14 seconds after Frolik's goal. Olesz then dished in front for Moore to make it 6-2 and cap the scoring with one minute to play.

Stafford's stuffer deflected off the back of Florida defenseman Keith Ballard in the crease for a 1-0 Sabres edge with 5:37 left in the first. Frolik's wrister from the right wing knotted the score at 18:21.

The Panthers moved ahead as Weiss tapped in Miller's failed clear at 1:21 of the second period.

"I tried to bring it across my body to sweep it away. I think Weiss could have beaten me to the side of the net anyway," Miller said of the sequence which led to the goal. "I was trying to get rid of it, but it hits him and he just taps it home from the goal line perfectly."
