NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Nashville
(Tuesday, March 23rd)
Final Score: Dallas 3, Nashville 1
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kari Lehtonen stopped 34 of 35 shots and the Stars scored twice in the final period to upend the Predators, 3-1, at Bridgestone Arena.
Loui Eriksson netted the game-winner in the third period and Matt Niskanen scored just 30 seconds later for the Stars, who have won two of their last three. Trevor Daley also scored in the win.
Brad Richards registered two assists in the win for Dallas, which is seven points back of Detroit for the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference with nine games to play.
Shea Weber tallied the only score for the Predators, who had a six-game winning streak snapped. They are tied with Los Angeles for sixth place in the West. Pekka Rinne turned aside 11 shots in the loss.
"Our urgency level could've been higher," said Predators coach Barry Trotz. "They ended up winning the game on a miscue by us. We had plenty of shots, but didn't bury our chances."
After a scoreless opening period that saw the Predators blast 14 shots to Dallas' five, Daley broke the silence 8:10 into the period on a rebound over the sprawled out Rinne after Richards' pass from the right side of the net hit off the goaltender and came back in front.
Nashville tied the contest on a Weber blistering slapper from the right boards at the 16:02 mark.
Eriksson broke the tie 1:30 into the final period as he received a nice cross- ice pass from Richards after a costly Predators turnover and lifted a wrister over the left shoulder of Rinne for the 2-1 lead.
"I tried to shoot it quick there," Eriksson said. "I went high glove there and he wasn't able to save it."
But the Stars weren't done, scoring just 30 seconds later as Niskanen wound up and nailed a slap shot from the right point, extending the edge to 3-1.
Nashville couldn't capitalize on a power play to end the game as they pulled its netminder for a 6-on-4 advantage.
Ryan Suter and Steve Sullivan each tallied an assist for the Predators...Dallas broke a three-game losing streak at Nashville...The Predators fell to 21-13-2 at home...Richards has tallied a point in six straight games.
