NHL Game Summary - Nashville at St. Louis

(Sunday, March 21st)

Final Score: Nashville 3, St. Louis 2

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Patric Hornqvist and Dustin Boyd score 48 seconds apart in the third period as the Nashville Predators rallied for a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Boyd added another goal while Pekka Rinne stopped 23 shots for the Predators, who have won six straight.

Nashville now has 89 points on the season and sits in the fifth spot in the Western Conference, two points ahead of idle Los Angeles.

"I thought we were generating more chances, we were quicker on the puck. It was a good win for us," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz.

Carlo Colaiacovo had a goal and an assist while David Perron also lit the lamp for the Blues, who had won two straight coming in. Chris Mason stopped 36 shots in the loss.

"(The loss) is unacceptable. One team played to win. The other team just came to play," Mason said.

St. Louis sits six points back of Detroit for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

St. Louis was holding a 2-1 lead and seemed content to just sit on the advantage as Nashville kept applying pressure in the St. Louis end.

The Predators were rewarded for the hard work with a pair of goals separated by 48 seconds for a 3-2 lead.

The first goal came with 3:34 to play as Hornqvist wrapped in a rebound in front.

Moments later on a delayed penalty on the Blues, Martin Erat skated behind the net from the right side and from the left threw it out front where Boyd one- timed it home with 2:46 to play.

The Blues pulled Mason for the extra attacker with over a minute to play, but were unable to net the equalizer.

St. Louis got on the board with 3:32 left in the first period on the power play. Alex Steen threw a pass from the left point over to the right circle for Andy McDonald, who immediately sent it over to the left circle for a one-timer by Colaiacovo for a 1-0 lead.

Nashville got the only goal of the second period to tie the game. With two players on him in the deep right boards, Jordin Tootoo sent a backhand pass out to the right circle where Boyd sent a wrister over the blocker of Mason for his ninth goal of the season.

St. Louis took the lead back 3:29 into the third. Colaiacovo sent the puck on net from the left point and it popped into the air, but Perron was in front of the net to whack it out of mid-air on the backhand for a 2-1 lead.
