NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Chicago

(Tuesday, January 5th)

Final Score: Chicago 4, Minnesota 1

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Marian Hossa scored twice to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild at United Center.

John Madden and Patrick Kane also scored for Chicago, which has won four straight and seven of its last eight games overall. Cristobal Huet made 19 saves in the win.

"Everybody's role is similar -- you play the team game, or you don't play," said Madden about the collective team effort. "We are all on the same page."

Guillaume Latendresse scored the only goal for the Wild, who have lost four consecutive games. Josh Harding allowed four goals on 33 shots in the losing effort.

After Latendresse opened the scoring at the 13:52 mark of the first period, the hosts answered at 17:26 via Madden's ninth goal. Kris Versteeg corralled a loose puck below the right circle and sent a pass across the crease for Madden, who lit the lamp from the left side near the post.

The lone goal of the middle stanza was scored by Hossa, who accepted a pass from Patrick Sharp on a 2-on-1 and tallied from the crease area at 12:38.

Early in the final period, Chicago was on the power play after the Wild were whistled for a delay-of-game minor penalty. Only eight seconds into the power play, Kane held control inside the right circle and released a wrist shot that made its way through traffic in front and past Harding 2:04 into the stanza.

"They can skate, they have skilled players and they have defensemen that can join the rush, but I didn't get the feeling sitting on the bench that we were out-matched," said Wild head coach Todd Richards.

Hossa's second goal of the game and 10th of the season capped the scoring with 10:51 to go in regulation. During a 2-on-1, Hossa dragged the puck to lure a defender in, then maneuvered around to release a shot from the low slot. Harding made the save, but Hossa followed his shot and buried the rebound from in close.

Game Notes
