NHL Game Summary - Washington at San Jose

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Joe Pavelski scored twice as the San Jose Sharks posted a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals at HP Pavilion.
Torrey Mitchell scored a goal while Ryane Clowe and Joe Thornton each had penalty shot goals for the Sharks, who are on a six-game tear. Evgeni Nabokov made 24 stops in the win.
Mike Knuble and Alex Ovechkin each had a goal for the Caps, who have dropped consecutive games for the first time since a three-game slide from November 20-23. Michal Neuvirth gave up five goals on 33 shots in the loss.
The Sharks took a 1-0 lead with 4:30 to play in the first as Pavelski's wrister from the low right circle beat Neuvirth to the far side.
Just 1:15 later, Mitchell gave San Jose a 2-0 lead as his quick wrister from the top of the left circle found the back of the net.
With 3:23 to play in the second period, Clowe was tripped by Mike Green on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. Clowe made it count as he went to the backhand and lifted the puck into the net.
Knuble made it a 3-1 game 4:54 into the third as he chipped in a rebound shot from in front of the net, but San Jose got the goal back 2:18 later as Pavelski's one-timer from the low slot got past Neuvirth.
San Jose got its second penalty shot of the game just 56 seconds later as Thornton was awarded one and he was successful on his attempt as he buried it into the right corner of the net.
Ovechkin scored on a wrister off of a left circle faceoff win with 7:20 to play to cap the scoring in the game.
San Jose plays in Phoenix on Thursday...Washington plays at Los Angeles on Saturday...The Capitals beat San Jose, 4-1, in Washington on October 15...Neither team scored on the power play with Washington having four chances and San Jose three.
