NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Anaheim

(Tuesday, December 29th)

Final Score: Anaheim 4, Minnesota 2

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Bobby Ryan recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild at Honda Center.

Dan Sexton also scored for the Ducks, who halted a two-game skid. Jonas Hiller was strong with 29 saves in the win.

"We've been in desperation mode for 10-15 games here to get out of the cellar," Ryan said. "All the other teams are winning, too. Everybody is getting points with us. This is a very critical part of the season."

Antti Miettinen and Kim Johnsson tallied for the Wild, who saw their three- game win streak halted. Josh Harding allowed three goals on 31 shots in the loss.

"We played last night, but it's not an excuse and we obviously had the energy in the second and third to control the play," Minnesota's Cal Clutterbuck said.

Ryan's unassisted tally at 7:08 of the first period opened the scoring. Ryan skated through the slot and unleashed a blazing wrist shot that beat Harding above the shoulder.

The Wild knotted the score with 4:19 to play in the opening stanza via Miettinen's rebound marker from the left side, but the Ducks regained their lead only 35 seconds later.

On the shift following Miettinen's ninth goal, Ryan gained control and hustled down the right-wing side. As three Minnesota defenders closed in on Ryan, the weak-side wing was left unguarded. From the right circle, Ryan sent a pass across the low slot for a wide-open Sexton, whose wrister from the left side lit the lamp at the 16:16 mark.

In the middle session, Ryan's second goal of the game and 19th of the season gave Anaheim a two-goal edge with 1:16 to play before the second intermission.

Kyle Brodziak was whistled for holding late in the stanza and the Ducks went to work with the extra skater. Saku Koivu held control along the lower right side near the goal line and fired a pass across the crease to the left post for Ryan, who was wide open and easily deposited a one-timer into the back of the cage.

In the latter stages of the third period, the Wild drew within 3-2 on Johnsson's fifth goal. The visitors were skating on the power play and Mikko Koivu, from along the left half-wall, sent a soft drop pass back to the near point before Johnsson's blazing one-timer beat Hiller at the 13:07 mark.

Todd Marchant's empty-netter inside the final minute sealed the victory.
