NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Dallas
(Monday, October 19th)
Final Score: Los Angeles 4, Dallas 1
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Ryan Smyth recorded a goal and two assists and Jonathan Quick made 29 saves to carry Los Angeles to a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.
Justin Williams added a goal and an assist and Anze Kopitar scored for the Kings, who split a six-game road trip despite losing the three previous games.
"I don't think we got frustrated," said Williams. "We haven't played well the last three games. Tonight we didn't have it all for 60 minutes, but good teams need to find ways to win when they're not at 100 percent."
Jamie Benn scored the lone goal for the Stars, who have alternated losses and wins for the past seven games. Marty Turco 28 made saves in defeat.
LA scored twice late in the middle stanza to take a 3-1 lead. Williams' redirection of Matt Greene's snap-shot from the point went between Turco's legs with 6:34 remaining, and Kopitar's one-timer on one knee from the left circle came just 2:33 later.
"We came out a little slow there," said Benn. "It's going to take a 60 minute effort to win in this league. I thought we showed some character in the third and tried to come back."
Dallas controlled the tempo in the final frame but failed to get anything past Quick despite out-shooting the Kings, 15-6. Wayne Simmonds notched an empty- net goal with 1:37 remaining to seal the game's outcome.
After 17-plus minutes of scoreless action to start the game, Brenden Morrow found Benn out front with a no-look pass, and the rookie was able to knock it in from there.
Smyth recorded his sixth goal of the season on the power play at the 5:17 mark of the second, screening Turco before getting just enough of Dustin Brown's shot from the left wing to record his sixth goal of the season.
Dallas has lost four of its last five home tests against the Kings...Next up for LA is Thursday's home tilt against Dallas, which also plays in Anaheim on Wednesday..Kopitar's goal was his fifth of the year.
