NHL Game Summary - NY Islanders at Buffalo

(Friday, October 16th)

Final Score: Buffalo 6, NY Islanders 3

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Clarke MacArthur, Tim Connolly and Tyler Myers each recorded a goal and an assist, keeping the Sabres unbeaten in regulation on the young season with a 6-3 win over the Islanders.

Jochen Hecht, Patrick Kaleta and Jason Pominville also scored for Buffalo, which received a 36-save effort out of Ryan Miller. The Sabres have won four straight following an overtime loss to Montreal in the season opener.

"It seems like we're getting a balanced scoring attack," Buffalo forward Drew Stafford said. "A lot of guys are getting shots, getting chances and burying them."

New York's Dwayne Roloson was pulled after giving up four goals on 12 shots in less than 30 minutes between the pipes. Martin Biron, who started his career with Buffalo in 1995, finished the game with 20 saves in relief.

"Certainly not an ideal situation, not one you want to get in the habit of doing," Islanders head coach Scott Gordon said of switching goaltenders. "I just felt at that point he had only 12 shots and they had four goals. It was something that sometimes mentally that's hard to get through. There will be nights when he will. But I didn't think tonight was going to be the night."

Matt Moulson recorded a goal and an assist, and rookie sensation John Tavares netted his third goal for the Islanders, who have yet to register a win in five games this year.

Buffalo's Daniel Paille raced to prevent an icing call early in the game, and the puck eventually found Myers out front for his first career tally.

After being taken down on a breakaway with 5:18 remaining in the opening period, MacArthur beat Roloson with a backhand on a penalty shot.

On Buffalo's third power play of the game, Connolly surprised Roloson with a shot from the left goal line, making it 3-0 at the 4:46 mark of the second.

Roughly two minutes later, Moulson redirected Freddy Meyer's shot from the point between Miller's pads to get the Islanders on the board.

A turnover in the neutral zone allowed Hecht to skate in unabated, and the forward slapped one past Roloson from the top of the left circle, signaling the end of the goaltender's night 9:22 into the second stanza.

New York countered two minutes later, as Miller fanned on a clearing attempt behind the net, letting Tavares scoop in for the near empty-netter.

Kaleta and New York's Andy Sutton exchanged goals 23 second apart midway through the third period to keep it a two-goal game, and Pominville's slapper from the right circle -- his 100th career goal -- with 4:08 remaining gave Buffalo enough breathing room to come away victorious.
