(Thursday, October 8th)
Final Score: Nashville 3, Colorado 2
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Patric Hornqvist scored two goals 2:17 apart in the third period, as the Nashville Predators opened the home portion of their schedule with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
Jason Arnott registered a goal and an assist for Nashville, which began its season with a 3-2 shootout victory at Dallas on Saturday. Dan Ellis made 22 saves in the victory.
Kyle Quincey and Marek Svatos each had a power-play goal for the Avalanche, who won both of their games at home to start the 2009-10 campaign. Craig Anderson stopped 34-of-37 shots in defeat.
Svatos gave the Avalanche a 2-1 lead at the 7:44 mark of the third period, taking a feed from T.J. Hensick and beating Ellis on the forehand.
Nashville appeared to tie the game with nine minutes remaining. Hornqvist had a breakaway, but a sprawling Anderson managed to get his right skate on the puck, slowing its momentum. The puck laid in the crease and Arnott, following up the play, directed it into the empty net with his skate. The goal was immediately waved off and a video review confirmed that the puck was kicked in by the Nashville captain.
Moments later, Ryan Suter fired a slap shot from the point that was turned aside by Anderson. Hornqvist, though, was on the doorstep and banged home the rebound for the equalizer with 7:29 remaining.
Hornqvist then put the Predators on top when he stationed himself in front of Anderson and deflected Shea Weber's wrister.
Quincey's bullet from the right point opened the scoring 4:30 into the second period. Nashville drew even on a goal by Arnott with 8:58 to play in the middle stanza.
