NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Anaheim
(Wednesday, February 10th)
Final Score: Anaheim 3, Edmonton 2
Todd Marchant scored the go-ahead goal on a redirection near the midway point of the third period to help the Anaheim Ducks edge the floundering Edmonton Oilers, 3-2, and set a franchise record with an 11th straight home win.
Bobby Ryan lit the lamp twice for the Ducks, who haven't tasted defeat at Honda Center since a 4-3 shootout loss to Ottawa on December 6. Anaheim goalie Jonas Hiller was marvelous between the pipes with 37 saves, including 17 in the first period alone.
Ryan Potulny and Ethan Moreau each had a short-handed goal for the Oilers, whose ineptitude on the road has reached a club-worst 11 in a row. Jeff Deslauriers made 27 saves on 30 shots to take the loss.
Marchant got his stick on James Wisniewski's shot to break a 2-2 tie at 8:21 of the third. Anaheim killed off a tripping penalty assessed to Petteri Nokelainen with 2:50 left in regulation, withstanding the late surge from Edmonton.
Ryan opened the scoring at 13:58 of the first period, but the Oilers drew even on Potulny's marker at 6:22 of the middle stanza. Moreau gave Edmonton the lead with 5:47 remaining in the second period.
The Ducks, though, converted the same power play as Ryan found the back of the net 69 seconds later.
