NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at New Jersey
(Wednesday, February 10th)
Final Score: Philadelphia 3, New Jersey 2 (OT)
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Simon Gagne's goal at 3:27 of overtime lifted Philadelphia past New Jersey, 3-2, at Prudential Center.
During a prolonged period of possession in the Devils's defensive zone, Gagne controlled the puck in the right circle, faked to the slot and fired home. The tally snapped a 12-game goalless drought for the 10-year veteran. Arron Asham and Jeff Carter tallied for the Flyers, who swept the home-and-home set after a 3-2 win on Monday -- both times rallying from a 2-0 deficit.
Michael Leighton picked up the win with a 21-save performance.
Travis Zajac and Rob Niedermayer scored for the Devils, who have lost five of six. Martin Brodeur took the loss by allowing three goals on just 15 shots.
Zajac managed to squeeze a shot through Leighton just 45 seconds in, and Niedermayer tipped in a Rod Pelley feed for a 2-0 game at 8:01.
Asham struck for the Flyers just 32 seconds later, then Scott Hartnell was denied the chance to tie game with 5:15 left on a power play, when his shot -- which Brodeur snagged with his glove inside the net -- was ruled to have not crossed the goal line.
Carter's quick wrister from the left wing tied the game with 6:13 left in the second period.
The Flyers have won four of five meetings this season...Devils forward Zach Parise was a late scratch with an upper body injury...New Jersey defenseman Anssi Salmela also did not play after suffering a concussion, broken nose and lost teeth during Monday's game in Philadelphia...Devils backliner Bryce Salvador left the game in the second period with an upper- body injury and did not return.
