Final Score: Calgary 3, Atlanta 1
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 24 shots to lead Calgary over Atlanta, 3-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Nigel Dawes, Olli Jokinen and Rene Bourque lit the lamp for the Flames, who had lost two of three coming in. Jarome Iginla picked up a pair of assists for the victors.
"You could tell before the game that guys were very focused, and that's a good thing," said Flames head coach Brent Sutter. "I was happy with our response after coming off a loss in L.A."
Colby Armstrong provided the lone tally for the Thrashers, who have lost two in a row and three of four. Johan Hedberg was solid in defeat, yielding just two goals on 31 shots.
Calgary assumed the lead with a pair of second-period goals, from Dawes at 2:09 and Jokinen's blistering drive at 14:28.
Armstrong brought the Thrashers within a goal at 12:27 of the third period thanks to a fluky bounce in front, but Bourque iced the victory with an empty- netter 40 seconds before the buzzer.
"We're just one of those teams that like to make the perfect play, and sometimes it's not there," said Atlanta head coach John Anderson about his club's lack of punch.
Atlanta had won the previous two meetings, both in Georgia...The Flames posted their first win over the Thrashers since a 4-1 decision in Calgary on February 13, 2007.
