NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Columbus
(Saturday, February 6th)
Final Score: Columbus 4, Buffalo 0
Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Columbus netminder Steve Mason stood tall between the pipes, making 28 saves to post his third shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over the struggling Buffalo Sabres at Nationwide Arena.
Rick Nash, Anton Stralman, Milan Jurcina and Raffi Torres each had a goal for the Blue Jackets, who have won two straight since Claude Noel replaced the fired Ken Hitchcock behind the bench. Jakub Voracek picked up three assists in the win.
"We played a lot of minutes and we are pretty confident right now," Voracek said. "We just have to keep going, you know, keep working hard and the goals are going to come; you just have to be patient."
Patrick Lalime stopped 21 shots for Buffalo, which has lost four straight and eight of 10 overall.
Columbus grabbed a 1-0 lead at 2:17 of the second period when Jurcina's blast from center ice took an odd carom off the glass and bounced in off Lalime.
"I knew the glass was bad so I was looking up for it, too," Lalime said. "It surprisingly, like, hit the glass all the way around and almost behind the net and hit me and went in. It was like a shot from behind the net."
Nash scored on a power play to make it 2-0 with 4:28 remaining in the middle stanza.
Stralman lit the lamp 46 seconds into the third period and Torres' power-play tally capped the scoring at 2:09.
Mason has 13 career shutouts...Nash leads the Blue Jackets with 25 goals...Columbus has won four straight over the Sabres...Buffalo was 0-for-5 on the power play.
