NHL Game Summary - Detroit at NY Rangers

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Dan Cleary scored the game-winning goal late in the third period, as the Detroit Red Wings scored three unanswered goals to down the New York Rangers, 3-1, at Madison Square Garden.
Pavel Datsyuk and Kris Draper also scored for the Red Wings, who snapped a two-game skid. Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg had two assists apiece for Detroit, which got 28 saves from Jimmy Howard.
"We did a great job. The guys did a real great job in taking sticks away in front and blocking some key shots there. We did a good job of keeping them to the outside," said Howard.
Brian Boyle scored the lone goal for the Rangers, who have lost four of their last five. Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 28-of-30 shots in defeat.
With the score tied at one, Cleary found the back of the net with 2:03 left in the third. Zetterberg charged down the right side of the ice before sliding a cross-ice pass to Cleary, who fired an odd-angle shot from the bottom of the left circle. The disc snuck through the pads of Lundqvist and trickled into the net.
Draper scored an empty-net goal with seven seconds left to seal the victory.
The Rangers drew first blood with 4:04 left in the first period. Christopher Higgins charged down the left side of the ice and into the Red Wings zone, before centering a pass for Boyle, who tipped the disc past Howard.
New York had a chance to extend its lead early in the second. Ryan Callahan was rewarded a penalty shot, but Howard made a pad save to keep Detroit down one just 1:37 into the stanza.
Datsyuk put home a rebound with 8:01 remaining in the middle stanza to deadlock things at one.
"It is a tough game to lose. They are all tough game when you lose them. It is tough when you feel like you play a good 60 (minutes) and they score late in the game. It is a tough loss," said Callahan.
Detroit defenseman Brian Rafalski returned to the lineup after missing two games with a back injury...New York was without defenseman Wade Redden (shoulder) for a fifth straight game...The Red Wings have won four straight over the Rangers since a 3-1 setback at MSG on October 25, 2003, including a 4-3 triumph when the teams last met in New York on February 5, 2007. Overall, Detroit has won 11 of it last 13 versus the Rangers and seven of the last nine played in New York...Detroit heads back home on Wednesday to take on St. Louis, while New York travels to Chicago on Wednesday.
