NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Edmonton

(Monday, April 5th)

Final Score: Edmonton 4, Minnesota 1

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Devan Dubnyk stopped 25 shots to help the Edmonton Oilers take a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild.

Ethan Moreau and Dustin Penner each had two goals for the Oilers, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

"We have very good support from our fans and we're very aware of the fact," said Moreau. "We talk about that believe it or not before the games and in practice that we have to find some energy to play for the people that support us and I think we've done a relatively good job of that of late."

Andrew Brunette scored the lone goal while Niklas Backstrom stopped 27 shots for the Wild, who have dropped four straight.

Both teams are playing for pride at this point as Minnesota has been eliminated from postseason contention while Edmonton is guaranteed the worst record in the league this season.

Edmonton struck 1:33 into the contest when Taylor Chorney sent a hard pass from the top of the left circle to the right circle where Dustin Penner threw a wrister into the net.

At the midway mark of the second, the Oilers made it a 2-0 game when Moreau received a pass all alone at the Minnesota blueline and blasted a shot between the five-hole of Backstrom for a shorthanded tally.

"We have a forward playing defense and playing the forward position you almost think like a defenseman," said Minnesota head coach Todd Richards about the shorthanded goal. "I think that's led to it but I think at times we're taking unnecessary chances on pucks and that's led to goals too."

Minnesota scored just 12 seconds into the second period courtesy of Brunette's 25th goal of the season.

Moreau gave Edmonton an insurance goal with 5:44 to play when he banged in his own rebound from in front for a 3-1 advantage.

Penner scored the final goal of the game with 4:21 to play on the power play.
