NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Calgary
(Saturday, November 29th)
Final Score: Calgary 3, Vancouver 1
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - David Moss and Matthew Lombardi scored third- period goals as Calgary slipped past Vancouver, 3-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Daymond Langkow netted the other goal for the Flames, who swept the home-and- home series after a 4-3 win in Vancouver on Thursday and have won five of their last six.
Miikka Kiprusoff earned the win by stopping 17-of-18 shots.
Kyle Wellwood got the only tally for the Canucks, who have dropped back-to- back games after winning four in a row. In his first career start, Cory Schneider allowed all three goals on 31 shots in the loss.
"Cory played solid, kept us in the game," said Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault. "It was evenly played in the first but they took over in the second period. I'm sure Cory would like to have that second goal back. We need to regroup and refocus."
Moss added some cushion for Calgary 6:11 into the third, taking a lead pass from Alberta native Curtis Glencross and ripping a wrister through Schneider's pads.
Wellwood halved Vancouver's deficit by one-timing a perfect cross-ice feed from Jannik Hansen at 11:26, but Jarome Iginla set up Lombardi to finish off a 2-on-1 break with 1:22 to play to ice the game for Calgary.
Langkow netted the lone goal of the first 40 minutes on the power play with 39 seconds left in the second period.
"When it's zero-zero, it's a fight to get that first one," Moss noted. "We pretty much played the way we wanted to the whole game, though. It feels good, it was one of those plays you want to get the puck to the net and it found a way through."
