NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Calgary
(Friday, January 30th)
Final Score: Calgary 3, Nashville 1
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 28 shots to lift the Calgary Flames to a 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Matthew Lombardi, Andre Roy and Adrian Aucoin each had a goal for the Flames, who have won three straight and seven of their last nine games.
"Everybody has been contributing and it is a reason for our success," said Roy. "We are playing pretty well, but we have to keep playing tighter and tighter every game as he get closer to the playoffs."
J.P. Dumont scored the lone goal while Pekka Rinne stopped 29 shots in the loss for the Predators, who have dropped four of their last five games.
"You gotta be over .500 on the road if you want to succeed in this league," said Dumont. "Sometimes you get the bounces but tonight we didn't."
The first period went scoreless, but Rinne was excellent in the frame as he made 15 saves while his counterpart stopped five shots.
Calgary got on the board at the 7:23 mark of the second as Curtis Glencross threw a pass out front from the deep right boards that Lombardi tipped past Rinne.
The Flames extended their lead to 2-0 on a 2-on-1 break as Eric Nystrom slammed on the brakes at the right circle to get the defender out of position and slid a pass over to Roy, who fired it home with 7:35 left in the second.
Kiprusoff stopped 13 shots in the frame to keep the Predators off the board.
The Predators made it a one-goal game at the 7:57 mark of the third. After Rinne made a nice save on a 2-on-1 break, the Predators skated down the other end and Dumont threw a shot on net from the low right side that Kiprusoff stopped, but Dumont was able to tuck home his own rebound for his 10th goal of the season.
Nashville was awarded a power play just moments after the goal as Cory Sarich was called for hooking, but Kiprusoff came up with several big saves during the man advantage to keep it a one-goal game.
Skating on the power play, Calgary sealed the win as Matthew Cammalleri fired a pass from the right side to the left where Aucoin's one-timer, which he didn't get all of, knuckled past Rinne for a 3-1 lead with 7:30 to play.
