NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Vancouver
(Thursday, January 15th)
Final Score: Phoenix 4, Vancouver 1
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Joakim Lindstrom notched two early goals as Phoenix ruined the return of Roberto Luongo with a 4-1 victory over Vancouver at GM Place.
Keith Yandle and Peter Mueller also tallied for the Coyotes, who have won three of their last four contests.
Ilya Bryzgalov made 31 saves to earn his 16th win of the season.
Daniel Sedin provided the only offense for the Canucks, who have lost four in a row. In his first action since being felled by a groin injury on November 22, Luongo was victimized for four goals on 32 shots.
"We're thinking of it too much out there," said Luongo. "We're forcing things and that's generating chances for the other team."
Luongo was shaky in the opening 20 minutes, allowing Phoenix to score twice on a pair of tallies by Lindstrom at even strength 1:05 into the contest and with the man-advantage at 13:16.
"The most important thing is to win the game. We can't give up chances, so that was my first priority," said Lindstrom.
Yandle snapped a 35-game goal drought at 2:22 of the second for a 3-0 Coyotes advantage and Mueller slipped a shot through Luongo's pads at 8:34.
Daniel Sedin put the Canucks on the scoreboard with 8:52 left in regulation but Vancouver didn't muster many quality chances for the remainder of the contest.
Shane Doan added two assists for Phoenix...Vancouver fell to 1-4-0 since Mats Sundin made his return to the NHL...After placing him on waivers Wednesday, the Canucks sent goaltender Curtis Sanford to Manitoba of the AHL after he cleared on Thursday...Yandle's only previous score came on October 11 against Columbus.
