NHL Game Summary - Los Angeles at Phoenix
(Saturday, December 27th)
Final Score: Los Angeles 4, Phoenix 0
Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Alexander Frolov scored twice, and Jonathan Quick stopped 26 shots for the second shutout of his young career, as the Los Angeles Kings routed the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-0, in the tail end of a home-and- home.
Quick blanked Columbus on Tuesday in a 3-0 Kings win, and Saturday against Phoenix notched another shutout -- in only his eighth career game and fifth contest this season.
"This is a big win, especially against a division rival," Quick said. "We're fighting for a playoff spot, so this was a big win for us."
Jarret Stoll had a goal and an assist, while Raitis Ivanans also scored for the Kings, who split the home-and-home with the Coyotes, who won Friday's matchup.
LA has won two of three overall.
Ilya Bryzgalov gave up four goals on 30 shots for Phoenix, which has lost three of four.
"I don't even know where to begin," Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky said. "We had a power play early in the hockey game, we failed to pretty much even get into their zone on that power play, and that set the tone of the hockey game."
The Kings blew apart a scoreless game in the late stages of the first period, posting three goals. Ivanans got LA on the board with 5:54 left in the frame, and Frolov scored a power-play goal with 2:33 remaining.
Stoll made it a 3-0 contest with just 20 ticks left, again with the man advantage, to give the Kings a sizable lead headed into the second.
Frolov tallied again 8:56 into the middle frame, his 16th goal this season, to extend LA's lead to four.
Quick, for his part, made six saves in the first period, 11 in the second and nine in the third to seal the Kings' win.
Phoenix went 0-for-9 on power-play chances...LA was 2-for-6 with a man- advantage...The Coyotes host Colorado on Wednesday...The Kings host Columbus on Monday.
