NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Calgary
(Tuesday, January 13th)
Final Score: Calgary 3, St. Louis 1
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Mike Cammalleri scored two goals to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues at Saddledome.
David Moss was credited with his 14th goal of the season for Calgary, which has won eight of its last nine games overall and captured its seventh consecutive home victory. Miikka Kiprusoff made 27 saves in the win.
Dan Hinote scored the only goal for the Blues, who have dropped two straight and five of their last seven contests overall. Chris Mason allowed three goals on 34 shots in the losing effort.
After Hinote's unassisted goal gave the Blues a 1-0 lead at the 16:56 mark of the first period, the Flames knotted the score one minute later while on the power play.
With Cam Janssen in the penalty box for an interference minor, Dion Phaneuf pinched in and tried to send a pass across the slot from the lower right circle. The puck deflected off a pair of skates and caromed directly to Cammalleri, who lit the lamp with a wrister from a sharp angle near the right post.
The score remained 1-1 through the second period and deep into the third before a power-play goal by Moss put the Flames ahead for good.
Calgary worked the puck around the perimeter while Alexander Steen was in the box for hooking. Moss held control along the goal line to the left of the net and attempted a centering pass. Blues defenseman Jay McKee had his stick along the ice in the crease perpendicular to the net, and the puck deflected off the shaft and crossed the goal line with 3:32 remaining in regulation.
Less than a minute later, Cammalleri sealed the win with his second goal of the game and 17th of the season. He streaked down the left side along the half-wall, used a stop-and-go deke move to get past Barret Jackman and fired home a wrist shot from in close near the left post at 17:09.
This marked Cammalleri's third multi-goal game of the season...Calgary has also won seven straight at home versus the Blues and improved to 16-4-3 at home in 2008-09...The Blues are winless in 13 of their last 14 games against Calgary...It was Hinote's first goal of the season...Calgary was 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Blues were scoreless on three chances with the extra skater...Blues forward Keith Tkachuk left in the second period with an upper body injury and did not return.
