NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Nashville
(Thursday, February 26th)
Final Score: Nashville 4, Phoenix 1
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Joel Ward had a goal and an assist while Pekka Rinne stopped 25 shots to help the Nashville Predators to a 4-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes at Sommet Center.
David Legwand, Jason Arnott and Steve Sullivan each lit the lamp for the Predators, who have won three straight.
"It was huge. Obviously we won the last game late and we just try to carry the momentum into tonight's game," said Ward. "We just have to keep winning our games and keep climbing in those standings."
The Predators have 64 points, one shy of Minnesota, Dallas, Edmonton and Anaheim for the final two playoff slots in the West.
Ed Jovanovski scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, who have dropped their past two games. Ilya Bryzgalov gave up all four goals on 47 shots in the loss.
Nashville got on the board at the 13:29 mark of the first period, when J.P. Dumont picked off a cross-ice pass in the Phoenix end and dished it to the right side for Sullivan, who roofed the puck for his fourth goal of the season.
Phoenix tied the game with 8:56 left in the second period on Jovanovski's sixth goal of the season, but Arnott got the lead back for the Predators when he stole a pass in the middle and fired it home just 54 seconds later.
The Predators gave themselves some insurance just 1:25 into the third period on a turnaround shot from the left side by Ward that slipped between the pads of Bryzgalov.
Nashville then sealed the win with 5:28 to play on a nice passing play with Legwand slamming the puck into the open net from the right side off a feed from Ward.
