NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Phoenix
(Saturday, January 10th)
Final Score: Phoenix 1, Dallas 0 (SO)
Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Kyle Turris got the game-winner in the fifth round of the shootout, as Phoenix edged Dallas, 1-0.
After Ilya Bryzgalov stopped Mike Modano to begin the round, Turris skated in, and after pulling Marty Turco to the left post on the backhand, slipped the puck inside the left post and below the crossbar for the deciding score.
"I tried to change up the angle a bit and come down my off-side and take it to my backhand," Turris said.
Bryzgalov ended with 38 saves for the Coyotes, who have won two in a row and four of six.
Turco stopped 28 shots for the Stars, who have dropped four of six.
The first 40 minutes passed without a goal and without much excitement or quality chances for either club.
Each side failed with power-play chances in the third period, and Phoenix could not convert on a carry-over advantage between the third and overtime.
"We deserved better, it's unfortunate," Turco lamented. "We'd like to have a few opportunities back."
Phoenix has won five of the last eight matchups...The Coyotes improved to 1-2 in shootouts this season, while the Stars fell to 3-3.
