NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Florida

(Tuesday, March 31st)

Final Score: Florida 5, Ottawa 2

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Michael Frolik led the way with a goal and two assists as Florida cruised past Ottawa, 5-2, at BankAtlantic Center.

Nathan Horton, Richard Zednik, Bryan McCabe and Stephen Weiss all tallied for the Panthers, who won three games in a row and remained one point behind the eighth-place Canadiens in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Craig Anderson stopped 30 shots for his 15th win of the season.

Chris Kelly and Chris Campoli scored for the Senators, who have dropped three of four and whose playoff hopes suffered a severe blow. Following Montreal's victory over Chicago, Ottawa fell to 12 points out of the eighth spot, with the Sens and Habs each having six games remaining.

Starter Brian Elliott played the majority of the contest, allowing all four goals on 21 shots. Alex Auld stopped all five shots he faced in almost 18 minutes of action for the remainder of the game.

Horton broke the scoreless deadlock for Florida at the 4:35 mark of the second period, and Kelly equalized for Ottawa with 7:36 to play.

During a four-minute power-play, Zednik kept digging under Elliott's pad to put the puck in the net for a 2-1 Panthers edge with 2:42 left in the period.

McCabe added a score on the back half of the double-minor a little more than a minute later and Florida took a two-goal lead to intermission.

Weiss provided a 4-1 cushion for the home team a little more than two minutes into the third period, then Campoli got credit for a puck which hit bodies in front and skipped past Anderson at 13:27.

Frolik capped the scoring with an empty-netter with 1:32 left in the contest.
