NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Chicago

(Wednesday, October 22nd)

Final Score: Chicago 3, Edmonton 0

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Nikolai Khabibulin stopped all 23 shots he faced, and Patrick Sharp had a goal and assist to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-0 win over Edmonton, dealing the Oilers their first loss of the season.

The shutout was Khabibulin's first of the season and 39th of his career. Brent Seabrook added a shorthanded goal and Aaron Johnson also lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who have won two in a row and three of four.

"We had a well rounded scoring group tonight," Sharp said. "More than anything, we're trying to put the puck on net, and we're glad when they go in."

Chicago moved to 2-0-1 since Joel Quenneville took over head coaching duties from Denis Savard.

"We knew we were a good team from the start," Seabrook said. "As a team, we knew our poor start wouldn't last forever."

Dwayne Roloson stopped 27-of-30 shots in the loss for Edmonton, which came into the contest with a 4-0-0 record. It was the first time the Oilers began a season with four straight wins since 1985-86, which was also the last time they opened with five consecutive victories.

"We were flat tonight," Roloson said. "We just didn't play our game. We're all professional, and we all have to get past this and look on."

With Chicago on a power play early in the game, Sharp's snap shot beat Roloson at 2:36. Then, with 1:25 remaining in the first period, Seabrook's shorthanded tally made it 2-0.

Johnson notched a rare goal in the second period to help Chicago put the game out of reach. The defenseman rifled in a one-timer for his first goal of the season, eighth career goal, and first score since March 29, 2007.

Chicago held off the Oilers in the third period, accumulating just five shots and holding Edmonton to eight.
