NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Edmonton

(Saturday, February 21st)

Final Score: Calgary 3, Edmonton 2 (SO)

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Matthew Lombardi tied the game late in the third period and Todd Bertuzzi scored the lone goal in the shootout, capping Calgary's 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

Jarome Iginla also tallied for the Flames, who have earned at least a point in each of their last seven games (5-0-2). Miikka Kiprusoff made 26 saves to notch his league-leading 35th win of the season.

Erik Cole and Ales Hemsky lit the lamp for the Oilers, who followed up a three-game win streak with three straight losses. Shawn Horcoff recorded two assists, while Dwayne Roloson turned away 30 of the 32 shots he faced.

Trailing 2-1, Lombardi fired the puck over the left shoulder of a screened Roloson, tying the game with 1:05 remaining in the third period. A careless Lombardi then went off for high-sticking with 51 seconds to play in the frame, but Edmonton couldn't convert on the man advantage that extended into overtime.

In the dying seconds of the extra session, Roloson robbed Michael Cammalleri on a breakaway to send the game to a shootout.

Bertuzzi was the first participant and he chipped the puck past the left pad of Roloson with one hand on his stick. Edmonton's Sam Gagner lost the handle on the puck and failed to get off a shot.

In the second round, Roloson made a diving save on an Iginla backhand attempt and Kiprusoff used the poke check to deny Robert Nilsson.

After Cammalleri was turned away again by Roloson, the active stick of Kiprusoff helped cement the win, confusing Hemsky and forcing the gifted forward to shovel the puck wide of the net.

Cole opened the scoring at 12:26 of the first period, then Iginla drew Calgary even with 3:20 remaining in the middle stanza. Cory Sarich chipped the puck off the boards to himself, faked a slap shot and dished to the middle for the Flames captain, who deposited the puck into the yawning cage.

Hemsky broke the deadlock early in the third period, picking up a pass from Horcoff and beating Kiprusoff on the stick side with a wrister at 1:46.
