Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Alex Auld stopped 24 shots for his first shutout of the season, as the Senators topped Nashville, 2-0, for their season-high fifth consecutive victory.
Dany Heatley and Nick Foligno scored, and Auld logged his sixth career shutout, as the Senators moved to 4-0 on a five-game, seven-day road trip, which concludes Tuesday at Colorado. It's Ottawa's first five-game win streak since December 5-18, 2007 when the Senators won six in a row.
The Senators are 5-1-1 under new coach Cory Clouston, who replaced Craig Hartsburg earlier this month.
Pekka Rinne had 22 saves for the Predators, who entered Monday with six wins in their last eight games.
Foligno scored 5:20 into the contest after the Senators capitalized on a turnover from Rinne, who failed to get the puck out of his own end. Mike Fisher picked up the disc near the right boards, fed a pass to Foligno, who notched his 10th goal of the season on a shot from the slot.
Heatley tallied his fourth goal in a three-game span by lightning the lamp with 6:04 left in the opening period. Jason Spezza dished the puck to Heatley, who rifled a shot from the lower left circle short side and high past Rinne.
Auld stopped eight shots in each period to give Ottawa its first shutout since December 13 against Tampa Bay.
Rinne had his share of good saves, including a short-handed breakaway denial of Fisher midway through the second. That turned out to be Ottawa's first shot of the period, a stanza in which they put just four pucks on net.
Heatley has a three-game goal streak...Nashville won the previous two meetings...This was Ottawa's first win at Nashville since March 24, 2001...Each team went 0-for-4 on the power play...The Predators play at Detroit Wednesday.
