NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Edmonton
(Tuesday, March 17th)
Final Score: Edmonton 2, St. Louis 1 (SO)
Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Ales Kotalik notched the lone goal in the shootout, as Edmonton nipped St. Louis, 2-1, at Rexall Place.
Kotalik began the second round by beating Chris Mason with a backhander, then Dwayne Roloson stopped Brad Boyes with a pad stop. Mason stoned Sam Gagner to open the third round, then Roloson ended the contest by foiling David Backes with his right pad stretched out against the post.
Sheldon Souray tallied for the Oilers, who halted a three-game losing skid. Roloson made 30 saves through overtime for the win.
"Well [the win is] nice especially against St. Louis, who is trying to chase us [for a playoff spot]...We got two points but they did get one so that's unfortunate," Roloson said.
Backes lit the lamp for the Blues, who have dropped two of three. Mason performed well in defeat, stopping 33-of-34 shots.
Souray netted a power-play goal midway through the first, and Backes answered on the man-advantage 2:03 into the second.
Both Roloson and Mason made 10 saves through the third period and overtime, keeping the game deadlocked until the shootout.
"It was definitely a playoff atmosphere out there," Mason said. "We battled to the end. It came down to a shootout and it's unfortunate but they got the win."
Edmonton swept the season series, 4-0-0, and has won each of the last seven meetings...The final three games this season between the clubs ended with 2-1 scores.
